Mar Baselios is a school system dedicated to the spiritual, intellectual, physical and social developments of its family of students. This Code of Conduct was created so that students choosing this environment will have the opportunity to achieve these goals to their fullest potential. By selecting Mar Baselios school you are agreed to abide by this code of conduct and understand that this Code of Conduct is intended to cover the behaviour of a Mar Baselios student year round.

  1. A student must carry his/her diary to school every day. It should be kept neat and tidy all through the year, school diary is an important document of the student’s career, conduct and studies in the school for the year, and it should be kept very carefully. Loss of the diary will be considered seriously and a fine of Rs. 150/- will be charged. Once it lost, a new one has to be collected from the office after getting the special permission from the principal.
  2. Attendance: No student should miss class or keep away from the co-curricular activities conducted in the school. A student is required to have at least 75% of attendance of the total working days to entitle him/her to appear the final examination. According to CBSE rules a student failing short of 75% attendance is not allowed to sit for the Class X public examination.
  3. Absence: Parents should fill up “the record of non attendance” for each day the student absent from the school stating the reasons for the absence.
    Excusable Reasons for Absence: The school accepts only the following as excusable reasons for absence from school. Each absence shall be explained in writing and signed by the parents.
    a written excuse for absence from school may be approved for one (I) or more of the following reasons for conditions.
    • Personal Illness: 1. The principal may require a doctor’s confirmation if he/she deems it advisable.
    • extreme Family emergency : 1. Examples may include, but are not limited to: Death, Illness, Quarantine of the Home or other.
    • Observance of Religious holidays: any student shall be excused for the purpose of observing a religious holiday consistent with his/her creed or belief.
    • Absence During the School Day for Professional Appointments : 1. Parents are to be encouraged to schedule medical, dental, legal and other necessary appointments other than during the school days. Since this is not always possible, when a student is to be absent for part of day.
      1. The student shall have a statement to that effect from his/her parents;
      2. The student shall bring a signed statement from the doctor, dentist, counselor etc. to the effect that he reported promptly for the appointments;
      3. The student shall report back to school immediately after his / her appointment if school is still in session.
      4. A student returning to school after suffering from infection of contagious disease, should produce a doctor’s certificate permitting him/her to do so. Students suffering from the following diseases must observe prescribed period of quarantine before returning to class.
        • Chicken pox : Till complete falling of the scabs
        • Cholera : Till the child is completely well
        • Measles Two weeks after the rash disappears
        • Mumps Until the swelling has gone
        • Jaundice 3 weeks after the recovery
  4. Repeated absence without leave for one month or unexplained leaves for more than 5 consecutive days renders the students liable to have his/her name struck off the roles. Readmission may granted only on payment of fresh admission fees.
  5. Children should always be clean and neatly dressed. The uniform is to be worn on all school days and all functions. The students coming to the school without full school uniform will not be allowed to sit in the class. A student who celebrates his/her birthday during the school day he/she can wear any acceptable dress other than the uniform.
  6. Except in the language class, English must be the medium of conversation in class rooms and in school campus. They are also asked to complete their assigned tasks on time and as directed.
  7. The school is not responsible for books, money, clothes and other valuable artilcles that are lost. It is not advisable to have money with them. Students must take care of their own possessions. Students are not to wear any ornaments to school (no chains, rings, bangles, bracelets). Girls may wear only a pair of small earrings or studs. No make up may be worn, this includes nail varnishing.
  8. It is the personal duty of all the students to keep their classrooms, verandas, school premises and the environment neat and clean. Students by turn will have to sweep their class rooms under the directions of the class teacher. All liter should be placed in the nearest rubbish bin.
  9. Students from one class room are not allowed to enter another classrooms. When students move along corridors, or go up and down the staircases, ‘Keep Left’ is the accepted rule without disturbing the neighbouring classes. Students waiting to enter a classroom should line up outside and wait quietly.
  10. Your behaviour in the classroom, verandas in the school bus or anywhere in the campus and outside the campus, should be polite and decent. Remember “correct behaviour is an expression of a fine character. All the students must respectfully greet the teachers on his/her first meeting in the school premises.
  11. When the teacher enters the classroom, the students shall rise and remain standing till they are asked to sit or till the teacher takes his/ her seat. They shall thank the teacher when the class is over.
  12. Students are strictly not allowed to leave their classroom while classes are going on without the permission of teachers. They are also not allowed to leave the classroom in between two periods, but remain silent and prepare for the next period.
  13. Students must silently follow the classes. If a teacher is not arrived in the class within five minutes of the bell, the class leader must immediately send the Asst.leader to report the matter to the principal. Till the arrival of the teacher class leader must take care of the class and all the students must obey him/her.
  14. Students arriving in school campus before first bell have to go straight to their own classrooms and be busy with the day’s lessons exercise, in silence. They must not be seen outside their classrooms or in the play grounds.
  15. Students are strictly not allowed to leave the campus without the permission of principal.
  16. Students shall not misrepresent a signature on any documents.
  17. Students shall not cause or attempt to cause damage of school property, including buses and bus seats. or personal property. Students shall not touch or handle another persons property without their authorization, Students must pay for any damage they cause to school equipments, materials or facilities and may be subject to additional disciplinary action.
  18. Students shall not act or threaten to act in such a way as to cause physical injury to other students, any school employee or other persons.
  19. Students shall not posses, handle, transmit or conceal any dangerous weapon or instrument on school property, in a school vehicle or as any school sponsored activity. The school prohibits harassment, bullying, hazing or any vicitimization, of students based on any of the following actual or perceived traits or characteristics: age, colour, creed, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, physical or mental disability, ancestry, socio-economic status, or familial status. Harassment against employees is also prohibited. If after an investigation, a student is found to be in violation of this policy, the student shall be disciplined by appropriate measures up to and including suspension and expulsion.
  20. Students shall refrain from displays of affection. Students are not hold hands, shoulder, hug or demonstrate other similar acts of affection. In unusual circumstances involving sorrow or extreme joy, holding on hands is natural and acceptable.
  21. No books (other than school texts or Library books) comics, periodicals, may brought to the school premises without the consent of the school authorities.
  22. Library: The school library is open to all students of the school. All classes except class I and II are provided at least one library period per week.
    1. Each student of class III to XI is issue borrower cards. These are not transferable.
    2. Students are allowed to borrow books only on their own cards.
    3. Students must maintain absolute silence in the library.
    4. Books other than the reference are issued for I week. Reference books are also issued to the students during weekend for 2 days. If the books are not returned on or before the due date fine or Rs.2/- per day will be charged and the borrowing facility is withdrawn for 2 weeks.
    5. The books marked, disfigured or damaged will have to replaced or paid by the borrower.
  23. Mobile Phones or any other electronic device, e.g. Personal music systems should not be brought to school. If bring them into school, they will be confiscated. If you need to phone out a land line (coin box facility) is located in the administrative office and you can use this after obtaining permission from the office. In emergencies student should first approach a member of a staff before using the phone in the office.
  24. No students shall use bubble gum, or chewing gum in the school campus. Students who are under the age of 18,strictly not allowed to drive the vehicles that need license.
  25. Any one who finds articles of any kind in the school or on the school ground is required to turn them into the office or to the person to whom they belong.
